Make sure you have enough energy to pursue your target before firing the missile. A full rear aspect shot against a target at this distance is a guaranteed kill unless they use CMs. Your ideal engagement range for R-60s is 2.2-2.0km distance. Avoid firing against a target that's turning side on to your nose, your missile will more than likely miss. It's not impossible to outmaneuver, but it's harder to do if you fire the R-60 correctly. R-60s in particular are difficult for most aircraft to outmaneuver effectively thanks to the R-60's characteristics without the use of Countermeasures. I'm going to focus on this portion of the post as it sounds like you're misusing your missiles. Originally posted by KosmonautGER:outturned or pop before they reach the enemy fighter jet. So far I made the best experiences with the R60 in combination with a flare launcher (I dont use cannons). R-3S, being essentially the AIM-9B isn't worth mentioning IMO when you have better choices. Could also be useful for high altitude targets too. R-3Rs can also be useful too, but they are not the best and often are just used to discipline headon kiddies on why it's a crappy tactic. This is larger range is made in exchange for losing agility and radar slaving. I prefer to use them on stall fighting harriers and fleeing F-105Ds and 104s. R-13Ms are better for landing sneaky shots from farther out or something going fast in a straight line as it can go further even after the motor burnt out. It can also be slaved to the radar too to make firing easier (otherwise, it tends to lock onto everything else), but that sensitive seeker is dangerous and easily TKs people who decide to dive in. Since it most commonly sees AV-8s and A-5Cs, most advantages are made null because of their ability to dospense flares. Flares, the sun, other players, they love sticking to everything but it's target. Launching between 800m and 2.5 km works best. R-60s are good agility, but have very short range. I am flying the Mig-21 SPS-K and I have tried all missiles but am currently using the R-60 missiles. Originally posted by Jaes:Which missiles/aircraft are you using? Very important information.
